HEERA COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY

Laboratories

Electrical and Electronics workshop is the basic lab that supports the study of beginners in electrical engineering. This laboratory gives an immense exposure to students in their third semester on basic electric devices and tools, various models of insulators, lamps etc. Through this, the students shall be able to appreciate the intricacies involved in domestic and industrial electrical wiring.
Besides this, Lab is also designed with experiments which offer the students better acquaintance of study related to familiarization of electronic components and soldering practice.

Electrical Machines Lab

The Electrical Machines lab is equipped with more than 20 electrical machines such as DC Generators, DC motors, Alternators, Slip ring induction motors, Squirrel cage induction motors, Single phase and Three phase Transformers, Synchronous machines, and other measuring equipments such as ammeters, voltmeters, wattmets, tachometers, multimeters etc, enabling our students to work in an industrial environment.
'ELEXERS' was inaugurated on 15th September 2011 at 10am in the college seminar hall by Dr.Achuthsankar S.Nair. The inauguration of 'ELEXERS' was followed by a technical talk, by the chief guest. The program was concluded with paper presentation by the members.
Electrical machines lab provides an excellent working and experimental environment to the students with qualified and experienced lab staffs. Our lab facilities are sufficient to conduct the experiments as per Kerala university syllabus. The machines lab gives practical knowledge about different machines for molding the students professionally competent.

Measurements and Instrumentation Lab

The Measurement and Instrumentation Lab is equipped with various transducers and instrumentation trainers, resistive, capacitive and inductive measurement systems, LVDTs and strain gauges, thermocouples and RTDs, Spot deflection Galvanometer, Weins Bridge Oscillator and Wheatstones Bridge. The lab also contains many basic electrical variables and time measurement equipments such as frequency counters, digital stopwatches, digital multimeters, digital earth tester, electronic energy meter electronic standard cells and digital oscilloscopes. The lab helps the students to gain hands on experience in different types of transducers and measurement systems.
The aim of this lab is to fortify the students with an adequate work experience in the measurement of different quantities and also the expertise in handling the instruments involved. The experiment module require_onces the measurement of displacement, resistance, inductance, torque and angle etc., and to give exposure to AC, DC bridges and transient measurement, calibration of single-phase energy meter Calibration of current transformer, Measurement of three phase power and power factor Measurement of iron loss.

Power Electronics Lab

The Power Electronics Lab is equipped with Power Electronics Training System- Power MOSFETS, power thyristors, chopper/invertors control units, thyristors controllers, function generators, oscilloscopes, powerscopes, multimeters and signal generators. It is used for teaching the integration of power electronics converters to design and implement motor drive systems and controlled drives.
The aim of this lab is to teach the students how to apply the electronic devices for conversion, control and conditioning of electronic power. It encloses following objectives

•To get an overview of different types of power semi-conductor devices and their switching characteristics.
•To understand the operation, characteristics and performance parameters of controlled rectifiers.
•To study the operation, switching techniques and basic topologies of DC-DC switching regulators.
•To learn the different modulation techniques of pulse width modulated inverters and to understand the harmonic reduction methods.
•To study the operation of AC voltage controller and Matrix converters.
•To study simple applications

Electronic Circuits lab

Electronic Circuits lab provides students an opportunity to implement circuits and verify theoretical relationships involving diodes, BJTs, FETs and amplifiers. Design, construction and testing of Oscillators, Regulators and Pulse and Switching circuits using analog ICs and discrete devices are also require_onced in the experiment modules.

This Lab is equipped with General purpose oscilloscopes, power supplies, function generators, solder stations, digital stopwatches, digital multimeters and a Component tester etc.
