National Service Scheme
Heera College of Engineering and Technology started NSS unit no. 248 on 25th February 2012 with a strength of 108 volunteers .As the main aim of National Service Scheme is personality development of students through community service,our NSS unit was vibrant with cultivation of spirit and practice of social service through NSS activities under the able guidance of Mr. Anoop.R.G, Program Officer and Mr.Nidhin Mohan and Ms.Lekshmy.U, Volunteer Secretary.
Programs Conducted
•Orientation Class
An orientation class for the newly enrolled NSS volunteers were conducted on November 27th 2013.The aim of the session was to impart the values and motto of NSS to the volunteers. The session was handled by Mr.Ajith (JCI, Certified Trainer).
•Special Camp 2014
Annual NSS special camp which lasts for seven days was conducted at Government UP School, Perayam.It was a creative, sustained and collective educational experience for students in social service through planned living to achieve certain specified objectives. 50 NSS volunteers attended the camp. The main activities carried out during the camp were Socio-economic survey, Eye check up camp, Cleaning and maintenance of school premises,Nature study tour ,Debates, Educational sessions and cultural programmes.
•Republic Day Celebration
The republic day celebration started with flag hosting by the principal. Following that day, the volunteers involved in different activities like debates on social issues, group activities, distribution of food to poor people and cleaning of campus premises etc.
•Army Day Celebration
Army day is celebrated to pay homage and salute to the courageous and brave Indian soldiers who sacrificed their lives for protecting the country. In HCET, the volunteers celebrated the day by organizing a talk by MR.Vikraman Pillai (Ex-BSF Jawan), who shared his valuable experience and patriotism with the students.
•Palliative Care
NSS volunteers conducted a socio-economic-health survey in the perayam ward and analyzed the social problems prevailing there. As part of this, volunteers donated a wheel chair to a handicapped woman and took initiative in providing palliative care for her. Also the volunteers took initiative in getting help to a family consisting of four paralysed people through channel and press medias
•Blood Donation Camp
On 15th March 2014, with the joint cooperation of HLL (Hindustan Life Care), KSACS (Kerala State Aids Control Society) and REOMZ (Mechanical Department Association, HCET) conducted a blood donation camp in which 65 students donated their blood for Govt. Medical College,Thiruvananthapuram. "
